Bookkeeping in Kannapolis, NC
Monthly bookkeeping for a downtown that has been rebuilt from the ground up.
What Kannapolis actually runs on
Kannapolis was built around Cannon Mills, and the 2003 Pillowtex bankruptcy ended 4,800 North Carolina jobs. What replaced it is a research campus and a substantially rebuilt downtown, and the small-business base has followed: food and drink, health and wellness practices, and the construction trades doing the rebuilding.
Who we keep books for here
- Restaurants, bars and breweries in the downtown West Avenue district
- Small health and wellness practices — physical therapy, dental, chiropractic, home care
- Residential construction trades working the subdivision growth across the city
- Commercial fit-out and specialty subcontractors working the downtown rebuild
- Independent retail and service storefronts
Listing business property in Cabarrus and Rowan counties
Kannapolis spans a county line: most of the city sits in Cabarrus, part in Rowan. Cabarrus businesses list with Cabarrus County Tax Administration in Concord; Rowan businesses list with Rowan County in Salisbury. As in Locust, the first question is which side of the line the business is on.
Rowan County's business listing form carries an internal sub-deadline most operators miss entirely: the section covering property leased or owned by others but in your possession on 1 January is marked due 15 January, two weeks before the listing itself. The same form warns it will be rejected if it is not signed by an authorised person.
North Carolina requires an annual business personal property listing with the county, generally during January. Counties set their own dates and extension rules each season, so confirm the current year with your county before you file.
How the monthly work runs
Every plan is the same monthly service. We connect to your bank and card accounts, categorize what moved, reconcile the accounts, and send a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet for the month and the year to date. What changes between plans is volume — how many accounts you run and how much passes through them — not what gets done.
Kannapolis is about 25 miles north of our office in Locust. Most of this runs online through the client portal, and you are welcome at the office whenever you would rather sit down with it.
