Cabarrus County
Bookkeeping in Harrisburg, NC
Monthly bookkeeping for a commuter town where most of the businesses are run from home.
What Harrisburg actually runs on
Harrisburg is a high-income commuter town rather than an employment centre. The 2020 census counted 18,967 residents across 11.28 square miles, median household income is $148,254 and mean travel time to work is 29.6 minutes. The jobs sit outside the town limits, which means the local business base skews heavily toward trades, home-based practices and services aimed at that residential population.
Who we keep books for here
- Trade contractors working a long pipeline of approved residential lots
- Lawn care, landscaping, irrigation and tree services on the large-lot subdivisions
- Restaurants, coffee shops and food trucks around the Town Center and the NC 49 corridor
- Solo and small-group practices — dental, chiropractic, physical therapy, veterinary, salon
- Real estate brokerages and insurance agencies, many run under the town's home-occupation rules
Listing business property in Cabarrus County
The county side is Cabarrus County Tax Administration, the same Tax Assessor's office that serves Concord, and the same rule applies: the listing is required, and the county issues no business licence.
Harrisburg carries two layers of registration that run in opposite directions. Cabarrus County no longer issues business licences — but the Town of Harrisburg does require its own registration. A business here can be fully square with the county and still be unregistered with the town, which is the reverse of what most owners expect.
North Carolina requires an annual business personal property listing with the county, generally during January. Counties set their own dates and extension rules each season, so confirm the current year with your county before you file.
How the monthly work runs
Every plan is the same monthly service. We connect to your bank and card accounts, categorize what moved, reconcile the accounts, and send a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet for the month and the year to date. What changes between plans is volume — how many accounts you run and how much passes through them — not what gets done.
Harrisburg is about 20 miles northwest of our office in Locust. Most of this runs online through the client portal, and you are welcome at the office whenever you would rather sit down with it.
