Stanly County handles this through its Tax Administration Department, formed in 2008 when the Board of Commissioners merged the Tax Collector's and Tax Assessor's offices. Business personal property is listed at the Business Personal Property Office on the second floor of the courthouse on South Second Street, on its own phone line, separate from collections on the floor below.
Stanly keeps business listing and tax collection as genuinely separate operations — different floors, different phone numbers. And the county's own listing form is rejected outright if it is not signed by an authorised person, which catches owners who send in an otherwise complete form.
North Carolina requires an annual business personal property listing with the county, generally during January. Counties set their own dates and extension rules each season, so confirm the current year with your county before you file.
